Episode 16 | Quit the Mess or Not
In this episode of the Messy Back-End of Entrepreneurship, our hosts Sheila J. Davis and Nate Tucker, talk about if we should continue on our entrepreneurial journey or just go get a job. The struggle is real and we all think about it at one time or another.
“If you quit ONCE it becomes a habit. Never quit!” – Michael Jordan

I have thought of quitting far too many times, thinking I am not good enough, I don’t have anything to offer, comparing myself to others, and struggling with the roller coaster income. I am just not sure I can keep this up. Others are so much more successful than I am. How do I know when it is time to quit or just work harder.
This is really common and often question especially for parents that are trying to support their families.
A big issue we have as entrepreneurs is comparing ourselves to other entrepreneurs. We will look at them and see everything that they want us to see. They don’t show off their messy back-ends or have nothing to offer. We assume they have it all figured out. If you were to sit down and talk with them it would be a whole different story. At times we focus on our weaknesses and compare them to other people’s strengths.
We just look at what other people are excelling out and compare it to our flaws.
We are definitely only seeing their front ends. We are also not seeing how long it took them to get there. The same things don’t work for everybody. I have to look at what will alter the course of my business.
You have to look at the broad perspective when making your decision. You have to decide what you value most in your life. You may have to may some cutbacks to make it work. The decisions won’t be easy and they will be different for each person.
The decisions are going to be tough. If they were easy everyone would make them and everyone would be a millionaire.
Most humans don’t want to make those tough decisions. They don’t want to take risks. They want what is comfortable and easy. They are not willing to sacrifice that comfort and ease.
Sometimes we need to put a pause on our business. Then we can come back stronger than ever. Sometimes you need to really focus and go for your own dreams too.
It is a personal decision where you weigh all the options, but it is YOUR decision.
If you absolutely love what you are doing, don’t give up and keep doing it.
